The Berkeley Garden Club was founded in 1932. The Club is an association of mostly amateur gardeners who meet monthly. At meetings gardening experiences are shared, gardening problems are discussed with Master Gardeners, and Bay Area horticulture is studied. At monthly meetings members and friends listen to experts on a variety of topics (see monthly meetings list for a sampling of recent programs). We also exchange plants, socialize and have light refreshments. The Club's stated objective is "to stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening among amateurs; to aid in the protection of native flora and fauna; and to encourage civic plantings." Although our objectives were created years ago, they still guide us today. Our members come from many cities in the Bay Area. Many of us have spent a lifetime gardening, others are new and eager to have questions answered. There is a great deal of sharing and caring among us. We are all enthusiastic about gardening and welcome anyone who shares our passion to find out more about the Club. To see if the Club is a good fit for you, you are invited, without obligation, to visit 1 or 2 of our monthly meetings and experience the Club first hand.
The Club holds monthly meetings at the Albany Community Center, 1249 Marin Avenue in Albany. Our meetings are held on the 3rd Tuesday of the month except for December, July and August. We have a business meeting that starts at 1:00 pm and present a speaker who begins at 2:00 pm. A plant exchange is held before the meeting at 12:00 PM.
