About Kay Wolff - Floral Designer

The BGC is honored to have Kay Wolff share her creativity at our Spring Tea.  Inspired in the gardens of her mother and grandmother, Kay developed a love for flowers and gardens. Her informal introduction to floral and garden design began at a young age. She has also explored the use of color, texture and pattern by working with textiles. Kay’s floral design training blossomed later, earning her a certificate in Retail Floristry at San Francisco City College, while she concurrently studied Sogetsu Ikebana with Sensei Soho Sakai.

Training and Education

Kay is an Accredited Member of the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD), a Certified Floral Designer (CFD), and a California Certified Florist (CCF), committed to ongoing study and the promotion of excellence within the industry. Kay is currently serving as the chair of the California Certified Florist Committee of the California State Floral Association (CSFA).

The studies of Sogetsu Ikebana, Modern European and Contemporary floral design, paired with Kay’s ability to listen to and help her clients express their ideas, allows her to incorporate their vision into beautiful and memorable floral arrangements, events, and installations. She has studied with the best of Bay Area floral design Instructors, and incorporates all she has learned into her own creative depth of style.

Mastery of both schools of design gives Kay the versatility to respond innovatively to the unique wishes of each client. Whatever the style, the hallmarks of Kay’s work are her astute use of color and texture and in the care that she bestows on each creation. An element of grace permeates her work.

Kay Wolff design and Making Arrangements Floral Design

Making Arrangements Floral Design was formed as an independent floral design business in 1988 when Kay, then Kay Gjeltema, developed this part-time business to allow her to create floral designs for her clients and have time to nurture her young children. In 2007, Kay became Kay Wolff when she married Wendell.

I love what I do. I feel very privileged to be a part of my clients’ lives,

I made the conscious decision to operate outside of the traditional wire service model, and instead, to offer a full complement of custom floral design services.
