Berkeley Rose Garden
The Berkeley Rose Garden is undergoing extensive renovation, a full circle opportunity for the Berkeley Garden Club as we were instrumental in it's original planting in 1937. We will help with pruning and maintenance of the extensive collection of roses as well as planting and maintaining the slope leading down to the garden.
The beautiful pergola which has been a destination for many years is being rebuilt with completion scheduled for 2018.
The enthusiastic and charming new gardener, Roger Kubalek has great plans for the garden and welcomes community participation. He can be found working in the garden Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Drop by and introduce yourself.
Rose Garden Slope
The slope leading down to the garden will be cleared, graded and planted with deer proof, drought tolerant low maintenance foliage plants.
Planting Plan - January 2017
Patricia Saint John developed plans, with a list of suggested plants, for the slope, the area under the Berkeley Rose Garden sign, and the arch behind the overlook. The plans have been approved by the City of Berkeley, plants ordered, and delivered! BGC volunteers planted the slope on Tuesday, January 31st, a sunny day between the storms. BGC volunteers will maintain this part of the rose garden. We will meet at the sign for Rose Garden maintenance on Thursdays at 2:00. This is a whole club project and we would love to have anyone join us who is interested.
Patricia has developed another plan for an annual planting which will be on Thursday, May 4th at 2:00.
